In the second phase, through ADRE more than six thousand candidates were selected for 50 government departments and after document verifications, 6,347 Grade-III candidates were found eligible for government appointments. He, therefore, urged upon the newly appointed candidates not to advocate any evil practices while they will be rendering their government jobs.
Sarma asked them to take a resolve not to commit any corrupt practices on the first day in office. He also urged them to act as anti-corruption crusader and ensure that no one else within the government system engages in corrupt practices. He also asked them to be very humble and benign toward the needs of the poor and weaker sections. Along with performing duties at the workplace, they must ensure that the poor and vulnerable in society receive high quality services from them.
Sarma also appealed to the new appointees to develop the spirit of ‘Team Assam’ and help in injecting more positive changes in the state administration. He also asked them to imbibe in them the spirit of cooperation for the expeditious disposal of file works. The Chief Minister moreover observed that many government employees maintain a willingness to learn new things only until they secure employment. As a result, they remain unaware of innovations emerging in their respective fields. This lack of awareness prevents them from improving the quality of their work and limits their overall impact on public service. He, therefore, asked the newly appointed candidates to sustain a mindset of continuous learning and knowledge building until the final day of their service.
The Chief Minister on the occasion also requested the newly appointed government employees to present something to their parents with their first salary and if possible, to do something with the namghars and other institutions of faith in their locality with their subsequent salaries.
