Taking to Facebook, Castleview AFC yesterday posted: “It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Alan Nagle.

“Alan was a hugely talented young footballer who represented our club with distinction at schoolboy level and later with both our Junior and Munster Senior League teams.

“Such was his ability and potential that he went on to join Cork City, a clear reflection of the talent he possessed and the high regard in which he was held.

“We also extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to James, his brother and our Junior Premier Manager, and to his father Frank, and to all of the Nagle family and Alan’s friends during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts are with you all.

A City statement read: “Everyone at Cork City FC is devastated to learn of the passing of former academy player, Alan Nagle.

“Alan joined the club at Under-15 level in 2017, and spent four years at the club, also featuring for our Under-17 and Under-19 sides.
