Windows smashed as torrential flooding fills country pub with water

A country pub situated alongside a Welsh river has once again been severely damaged due to flooding caused by persistent rain. Parts of the Cresselly Arms, located in the Carmarthenshire village of Pontargothi, are underwater after heavy rainfall across most of the county on Monday and Tuesday.

Last November parts of the pub were waist-deep in water following torrential rain which fell during Storm Bert. Previously to that it was badly hit by flooding in Storm Dennis back in 2018 and on several occasions in between.

The same thing happened again on Tuesday, November 4, and there are fears the flooding could get worse if the weather does not improve in the coming days.

Welsh primary school at centre of ‘knives’ threat to reopen

A Welsh primary school which was shut down by police because a threat was made about “individuals attending the premises armed with knives” is to reopen on Wednesday, November 5. A decision was taken in the early hours of Monday morning to close Dafen CP School in Llanelli after messages were received online which resulted in police taking “safeguarding action”.

Police confirmed on Monday night that a “critical incident” had been declared and that at least 13 police units were deployed to the school and surrounding areas – including a firearms unit, a dog unit, neighbourhood policing and prevention teams, and response officers.

They also revealed that the threat against the school “suggested individuals attending the school with knives on Monday”. Stay informed on Carms news by signing up to our newsletter here.
