In a recent development, serious allegations have emerged that the Chairwoman of the Federal Character Commission, Farida Dankaka has been involved in a scandalous practice of selling federal jobs at an exorbitant price of N7 million each.
These accusations have raised questions about the integrity and credibility of the Federal Character Commission.
As the nation grapples with the implications of these troubling allegations, there is a growing demand for swift and thorough investigations to determine the truth behind the accusations. This article attempts to examine the details of the allegations and what the government is doing at the moment. Let’s get in.
Dankaka reportedly connived with EFCC to stop the petition against her
Commissioners of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) allege that Dankaka was selling jobs in federal ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs). They noted that they petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate her, but nothing has been done.
The FCC commissioners who made the allegations are Abdulrasaq Adeoye (Osun), James Daniya (Kwara), Abdulwasiu Bawa-Allah (Lagos), Moses Anaughe (Delta), Mamman Alakayi (Nasarawa), among others.
They told the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating MDAs and parastatal and tertiary institutions on employment racketeering in Abuja that, “Jobseekers pay as low as N750,000 and as high as N7 million depending on the MDAs where the jobs are being sought. The money from the various accounts is transferred into the main account in Access Bank.”
Reacting to this allegation, Dankaka said the agency wanted to employ personnel and got the approval, stressing that she did not compromise at any time.
She allegedly moves her son from one lucrative agency to another
The commissioners also alleged that Dankaka moved her son from one agency to another as the Chairperson. This means that reportedly leads the commission as a family empire. According to reports, Dankaka lied that she had a medical appointment to avoid appearing before the committee.
Exposing her antics, Commissioner of FCC from Delta State, Moses Anaughe said, “She is in her office as we speak. I want to stress that the chairman of the Federal Character Commission, is her usual excuse for various committees that invite her. I want to plead that the chair of the FCC should come and face the committee to tell her stewardship of the FCC.”
Dankaka believes corruption will fight you back
In defence of all these allegations, Dankaka said, “When you fight corruption, corruption will fight back.”
She also added, “I did not come to make money but to serve my fatherland. What some of them are looking for is money. Before I came here, I had made my money. Some of them have their reasons for attacking me.”
Dankaka further argued that all the allegations levied against her are false. She also noted that before she assumed office in July 2020, all the commissioners were “selling jobs,” adding that her refusal to join the fray spurred their anger against her.
Osun commissioner buys land with a job promise
The FCC Chairwoman also accused the commissioner representing Osun of buying a property and telling the person that he would repay them with job slots.
She also said, “The Osun commissioner is always in my office.” Dankaka said the actions of commissioners made her send letters to MDAs that they should not honour any letter from commissioners if they did not see her signature.
House of Reps Committee begins investigations
The chairman of the House Committee Gagdi Yusuf has assured Nigerians that the legislators would not be part of the politics of any agencies.
He said, “We will do our job, and justice will be done.”
